Where does Sentry store EU data — and who can touch it?
Sentry offers EU data residency, and relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework plus SCCs for transfers.
Sentry lets you choose a US or EU (Germany) data-storage location at organisation creation, available across plans; the choice is permanent. It is certified to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, with a self-serve DPA available on all plans.
EU data residency
Can you keep data in the EU?
When setting up a Sentry account you choose the data-storage location from a dropdown; the EU region is hosted in Germany and accessed via the de.sentry.io domain. The choice cannot be changed afterwards — switching means creating a new organisation — and it is available when creating any organisation.
Transfer mechanism
Sentry self-certifies to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, the UK Extension and the Swiss-US Framework, and its DPA governs international transfers with SCCs as the safeguard where DPF does not apply.
Sub-processors
Who else processes your data?
Sentry publishes a versioned sub-processor list (~11 entities including AWS, Cloudflare, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Intercom and Twilio/SendGrid, plus Sentry's own EU/Canada/Netherlands affiliates). Subscribe to the RSS feed to be notified of changes. current sub-processor list ↗
Data Processing Agreement (DPA)
Does Sentry sign a DPA?
The DPA is accessible in-product under Legal & Compliance and applies to all plans; it can be signed/accepted by an Owner or Billing-role member, and a pre-signed copy is also offered. DPA ↗
What the trust-badge pages don't tell you
EU residency is genuinely available on every plan, but it is set once at org creation and is irreversible — choose de.sentry.io up front, because there is no later migration path short of a new organisation.

Sentry can be used in a GDPR-compliant way, but compliance depends on your configuration, not just the vendor: Sentry lets you choose a US or EU (Germany) data-storage location at organisation creation, available across plans; the choice is permanent. It is certified to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, with a self-serve DPA available on all plans. You are the controller — confirm the current DPA, residency and sub-processor terms with Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry) and run a transfer impact assessment before processing EU personal data.
